Zoey

I am sad to tell you that we said goodbye to our sweet Zoey this afternoon (or technically yesterday afternoon). I can't sleep for laying here thinking about her and remembering how much joy she brought us. She was such an incredible dog! You have never seen a dog that smiled as much as Zoey....seriously smiled. Her tail never stopped wagging.

My incredible, kind, loving vet and her sweet staff made Zoey's passing so peaceful...in a quiet, comfortable room and a big, soft pillow for Zoey's head...and such kindness and hugs for me. They gave us such a gift today just like when Deogee passed away. I am so grateful.

You will see in the video below Zoey's trademark "Quiet speaks". She would bark this funny bark but no noise would come out. Rest assured, she could let out a deafening bay, which was the reason I had to teach her "quiet speaks" to begin with. You will also see her classic "show me your belly" pose in the montage. She would readily drop and roll to show anyone her beautiful belly...not an once of dominance in her sweet self.

Some of my best memories are back in 2001 when I quit my job, bought an RV and left for many months. The main purpose of my adventure was to get to places where I could open the RV doors each morning and let the dogs go…..run…..be free without fear of cars or traffic. It was just me and Deogee and Zoey. We would find cool places deep in the forests of, say, Colorado and Southern Wyoming...and stay for weeks. I always tried to stay places that were as remote as I could find and we would live off the generator...and just enjoy the solitude.

Zoey came into my life off the highway in early 1995 and quickly overcame what I suspect was abuse by her prior owner. She worshiped her "brother" Deogee. She had an ADORABLE expression of one ear up and one ear flopped. Zoey patiently wore fake antlers while we wished everyone a White "Trash" Christmas in 2002. She put up with new children and new puppies with absolute grace. Her hips and her body gave out but her incredible, wonderful, funny spirit was bright until the end.

We already miss her dearly.

Oh Maureen, I am so sorry. I know what a huge part our doggies play in our lives and it is heartbreaking when they have to leave us. The video is a wonderful tribute to a wonderful Zoey.
Love,
Martha

That last picture of Angelica on Zoey's back is precious! It's as though she's saying a quiet prayer for Zoey.

I know your heart is aching this morning, and our hearts ache for you, too. Under the best circumstances this would be a tough day. And with all the other challenges you are facing, this just seems so unfair.

She was such a great dog, and you gave her a wonderful home and family! Truly the epitomy of "a dog's life!"

We love and miss you tons~

Mo - I'm so sorry to hear about Zoey. Beautiful, crazy Zoey. The video of her is wonderful and captures everything about her...such a 'boo-boo kitty' - just like Deogee.

Thinking of you/praying for you daily - Love you...

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Oh Maureen I am so sorry. This is the hardest thing to see your "best friend" go through. Zoey will pass over that Rainbow bridge and someday you will see her again....
If you want some brownies and chocolate milk, let me know, always makes me feel better on a day such as this:-)
Love, Beth

Mimi,

I don't know which made me cry harder, your montage or Beth's comments. I didn't kmow being an aunt to those dogs would be so heartbreaking, but I'm sad right along with you.

Try to think about what Beth said, and envision Zoey "whole" again, running with her pals and feeling no pain. I bet she's giving you a "quiet speaks" right now.

I love you. Hope your sadness turns to sweet memories soon.

Oh, Mimi. My heart breaks for you. I know with absolute certainty that Zoey could not have had a better life than with you. She is smiling down on you now, with one ear flopped, ready to guide you through the rest of your journey with quiet speaks. She will always be with you. --Janice.

Maureen, Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Zoey was such a wonderful and faithful friend. You could truly see that you were her world. If Scruffy and Odie need another friend, Nelson will be happy to volunteer. :)

Love you guys,

Hi Mo..

I am so sorry to hear about Zoe. The love that you have for your dogs was so contagious. Not being a real "dog" person, I remember going to your house and being transformed by all the love. Why this happened now, escapes me, but I am certain it will someday be revealed what God's plan was. I adore you!

It is hard to put tears in words, but I am so sorry. You could not have made a happier life for her, especially after Deogee passed and she got a new family.

I cannot even think of how sad it is to lose your Zoey. My dog Molly gets so much love and Zoey has so many more people loving her. Molly's sister travelled the rainbow bridge over a year ago and now she has another great playmate.

I am so sorry about your loss of Zoey - I really enjoyed the video montage of her, even though it made me cry, but you know how I feel about animals!

Oh Maureen, I am so sorry for your loss. I will miss seeing Zoey at the gate as Jenny and I walk through the neighborhood. What a precious gift you were to each other. I am sure she and Deogee are revelling together watching over you and the children. Hugs and Kisses.
